Soft Plastic Baits for Wacky Rig Fishing
The wacky rig is a simple finesse presentation that gives a soft plastic stick bait a natural fluttering fall with very little added action. It is especially effective for bass around docks, sparse grass, open water and other areas where a subtle presentation can trigger pressured fish.
Hook the bait through the middle or use a wacky-style O-ring to help preserve the plastic. Fish it weightless for a slow fall, or add a small nail weight or weighted wacky hook when you need to reach deeper water.
Choosing a Wacky Rig Bait
Stick baits and slender worms with enough flexibility to move on both ends are strong choices for wacky rig fishing. Match bait size and color to local forage, water clarity and the depth you are fishing.
Natural colors are dependable in clear water, while darker or higher-contrast colors can help the bait stand out in stained water or low-light conditions.
